Frequently Asked Questions About Marriage Counseling
Is what I say in our appointment confidential?
Yes, generally what is disclosed in marriage counseling is confidential. However, there are a few limits to confidentiality of any talk therapy. If these situations arise, I will talk about it with you directly. Here are exceptions to confidentiality:
I believe you will be an immediate danger to yourself or to someone else. This is a requirement of all counselors and therapists in order to ensure safety above all else.
You are allegedly engaging in child or elder abuse. As a mandated reporter, I am required by law to report child abuse and elder.
You give me written consent to release information. This is usually to coordinate with another medical provider.
I am subpoenaed by a judge to disclose information. I will work with the judge to limit the scope of information subpoenaed and protect your privacy as much as I can.
How Long Are Appointments?
The standard appointment for couples lasts 90 minutes Appointments are scheduled either for 60 minutes or 90 minutes, it is your preference.
How Long Does Treatment Last?
Marriage Preparation is 5 sessions.
Marriage Counseling lasts between 10-20 appointments, plus 3-month and 6-month check-up appointments.
Individual appointments for postpartum issues will depend on each individual case and your needs.
How Frequently Would We Meet?
Weekly, during the initial phase.
If more support is needed, this can be increased.
Management phase will vary from bi-weekly to check-up appointments 3 or 6 months out.
When Are You Available?
Tuesday- Thursday 10:30 AM- 5 PM
Can we meet virtually?
This is your preference. We can meet in person at my office in Rochester MI or we can meet virtually using a secure Telehealth App called Spruce Health.
What Are The Rates For Therapy Sessions?
If you are paying privately for your sessions the following rates apply:
60 minutes $120
90 minutes $150
24-Hour Cancellation fee $75
*A cancellation fee will be collected when there is a no-show to an appointment, or when I am given less than 24-hour notice of cancellation. Cancellation fee is an out-of-pocket expense, not covered by insurance.
What Payments Do You Take?
Talk Remedy Therapy accepts cash, checks, FSA/HSA, debit, and credit cards as form of payment. Same-day cancellation fees are collected by credit card.
Can I Bill My Insurance For Therapy Sessions?
Most insurances reimburse only for treatment of individual mental health disorders and do not cover Marriage Counseling because the focus of treatment is the relationship.
